The US “outsourced” so much of it’s industry under the rubrik of “globalisation”. The oligarchs got richer and the common man was told to “learn to code”. Entire communities were hollowed out and people left destitute. Drugs followed where alcohol stopped being effective. And here we are.
President Trump is wielding the US economy like a club, in hasty overreaction to anything he sees or hears that vexes him. The main loser from this will be the US economy.
Diversifying arms purchases may make good political sense, but it is military nonsense. The Russian aircraft, missiles, radars, etc. are individually excellent, but their true strength emerges only when they are networked together into an integrated system. That may have led to Indian losses in the recent skirmishes with Pakistan, whose Chinese equipment may work more closely together.
Mr Witkoff is “an amateur in diplomacy”. So he should fit right in to the State Department.
It has often been remarked that the US government does not do diplomacy. Instead, it does threats of violence and actual violence.
