Sorry again Alexander. This tarrifs talk is horribly conflicted and contradictory. Greedy capitalists who would demolish an ammunition plant ( sideways comment on Project Ukraine) because it became low return on investment, would easily move production to a geography that feeds workers on fish eyes and rice, while poisoning the foreign environment. Most academic economists are ill-equipped to offer any real insights into what this tarrifs business is all about. It is a multi-multi-layered cake. Don’t be blinded by the icing. Stay your emotions. Hint: Dig deeper and consider the underlying issue and nature of capital and its movement. These… Read more »
The US probably still leads in chip production of tortilla chips for Mexican restaurants.
And, let’s not forget about the US salsa production, which is significant reciprocal trade with Mexico and other countries that have Mexican restaurants. In fact, the old homesteaded family farm which, long ago, produced grains & fiber, was converted to chili production (much of which was mixed in with paint for the hulls of ships to deter barnacles) before it became a million-dollar gravel pit.
When it comes to trade, Alexander is 1000% wrong. The US has been taking it up the backside from the rest of the world for decades and it is time to level the playing field. The US has by far the biggest consumer market and it has been very generous in its trade policy, not because it is in our best interest, but because our politicians are for sale to the highest bidder. As an American, I support these tarriffs and to be honest, the rest of the world that have been taking advantage of the US can go pound… Read more »
There’s no need to complicate what Trump is doing and to obsess on the issue of threat and bullying. The big picture is this: When Nixon “opened” China to US trade in the 1970s, US corporations took advantage of this and moved their industrial facilities to China. There they enjoyed cheap labor, no labor laws or unions, and proximity to natural resources. So what as once America’s industria base, then because China’s industrial base. That precipitated a dangerous trade imbalance for the US, which now had to import goods instead of exporting them. What Trump is trying to do is… Read more »
Trump talks tough, but he’s totally manipulated and controlled by the neocons and zionists. He’s not a very intelligent man, and he’s out of his depth in Washington politics, so he overly relies on the 4th-rate people he surrounds himself with. Ironically, he chose these people so as to dominate, but as it turns out, they are the ones dominating.
Re tariffs, Trump may also be making a point about the use of emergency power, which was so grossly abused during covid.
Your view of alleged MAGA positions as to how Trump got elected is very misplaced. Trump was elected to end the wars. Trump was elected to end the foreign freeloaders. Trump was elected to stop the debt. The US is about to collapse. Neocon Congressmen are calling for nuclear war. It may well happen. DC is MAGAs enemy #1. Trumps #1 enemies are domestic not foreign. BUT Trump is not running for re-election. The CIA and DoD are killing Russians, Yemenese, Syrian and shortly Iran 24/7 in the thousands regardless of Trump who is not in charge. They will start… Read more »
Trump declares an “economic state of emergency” but ignores the illegals who kill Americans daily.
Why no “state of Emergency” for the over 20 Million Illegal parasites stealing our tax money?
Trump is giving ILLEGALS DE FACTO AMNESTY.
Trump is a LIAR and a FRAUD.
