Mr Putin’s relationship with General Gerasimov is reminiscent of President Lincoln’s with General Grant. Namely, the political leader is delighted to have a military leader whom he can trust to implement his general policies in the most professional way.
One huge difference is that it took years of bitter war and many inadequate commanders before General Grant reached the top and took over. In Russia the armed forces are so well organised that there is probably always a group of highly expert and reliable generals to run a war.
There is some information that Russian troops are only a few kilometers away from liberating Kramatorsk. If they do that, such will be a huge blow to Zelensky.especially when Slavyansk militants surrender too.
