Because you asked, I shall write that there is no comparing the speech of Stalin in Feb 1942 with the Putin speech. Germany has always been a cultural and national entity distinct from Russia and vice-versa. Ukraine and Russia, by contrast, have had close association for hundreds of years, by religion, language, and nationality. They are also contiguous geographically. There is no reason at all why it would be an geopolitical anomaly for Russia to absorb Ukraine, while it would be, literally, far reaching for Stalin’s Russia to absorb Germany, as a state.
