Every time the military establishment (including the security services) speak about the ‘danger’ of the Russians/Chinese/Arabs/N.Koreans it is purely because they want their budgets increased. Every part of the public sector – transport workers, civil servants, NHS workers, military etc. – is trying to milk this pathetic Starmer government for more money, despite having been given extra money as soon as Starmer was voted in. These idiots in uniform need to talk up a possible war with Russia or anyone else for that matter, in order to justify their existence, their huge salaries and their comfortable pensions at the end of it. Without the war talk, they might as well pack up and go home now.

Of course, if Mr Trump wins his lawsuit – and even if it is tried in the USA, no doubt the supine UK government will fall over itself to enforce the judgment – it is we, the British taxpayers, who will have to pay.

It is not possible to have a society (except Ukraine) in which there is not an agreed, openly or tacitly, a social contract between the governing and the governed. The agreement is that the governed will sacrifice to build and defend the nation AS LONG AS the governing run the country for equal benefit of the governed. Another reason for sanctions relief on Belarus: fertiliser and potash! The world is short of it; most of it used to come from Russia & Belarus, with EU making their own from Russian gas. Oops! that’s all gone. So the US needs fertiliser BADLY. 30% of cost to produce Wheat etc = fertiliser.
