Trump’s Truth Social Easter post yesterday hit a new low for vulgarity, degeneracy and depravity. It was a cry of defeat and despair. He may possibly have had some good intentions before and during his first term. Many people, including me, hoped so and supported him. But even if they existed, they were no match for the forces he encountered. Now he is a completely broken man. The aura of presidential power is wearing off.
There was apparently a tactical plan to combine the rescue of a pilot that had previously been shot down with an attempt to seize some part of the 460 kilos of 60% uranium that Iran still has, supposedly stored in a nuclear facility in Isfahan, according to Grosse, the head of the IAEA. Why he thought so I don’t understand. There are plenty of tunnels all over Iran much too deep to bomb. Why would they leave it in Isfahan? But Trump wanted to get out of the war with a quick operation followed by a declaration of victory, and so they went ahead with it against the advice of senior Pentagon generals, who have been fired, and it ended in a disaster. The number of casualties is still not clear. But this humiliating failure is probably what led to Trump’s Truth Social Easter post.
I don’t know how it will happen, but I hope we are approaching the point where Trump will be thrown out of office by the sheer force of popular opinion.
