I would argue instead, that President Zelenskiy’s anger in Washington was fully justified, both last week and eight months ago, in February. Considering that it was the president of the US that had put pressure on Ukraïne to reject peace in Istanbul in 2022, this sort of reversal smacks of cynicism. Especially since President Trump was bragging that Zelenskiy, in Feb 2025, had no cards to play against Russia, and since Trump himself had even subsequently claimed that Zelenskiy should have accepted the Istanbul deal, disregarding the fact that it was his own predecessor that had persuaded Zelenskiy to act… Read more »

The four Russian oblasts voted to rejoin Russia by an overwhelming majority. I can’t see how anyone can negotiate them back to Ukraine now. Now only would there be a massive outcry but it would go against the Russian Constitution. And Ukraine could give all the guarantees about respecting their language and culture, throwing out the far-rightists, etc. we know how good they are at keeping to their side of the bargain.
