No need to overthink this. Trump’s priority for now is getting his cabinet picks through the Senate. Ukraine hawks in the Senate will make trouble for his cabinet votes if he confronts them over Ukraine funding or support now. After he gets his picks through, he has more latitude to make a deal with Putin. This has nothing to do with Putin or Trump’s psychology or negotiating tactics. First things first. Alexander, have you ever considered that Trump is just incompetent??
That is the most logical reason for Trump’s inability to address the Ukraine War.
We have known Trump long enough to know one can’t take everything he says literally. Nobody can end a war in 24 hours and nobody can deport millions on the first day. All he really meant was that those two things are his first priorities. He assumes everybody is aware of that. I don’t much like Trump either, but his peculiar way of communicating is not the same thing as lying.
