“a Second Cuban Missile Crisis?” is a misnomer, as the geopolitics of the Caribbean Crisis, was only pertinent, because of the inferior rocket science of early 1960s, compared to Russia’s hypersonic rocket science of the 2020s. The facts of the matter are, the Russians can just as easily strike the United States from deep within the forests of Siberia, as they can from Cuba.
The Russian RS-28 Sarmat (Satan II) super-heavy intercontinental ballistic missile, is fitted with the Avangard glide vehicle, which detaches from the RS-28 Sarmat when it nears its target, which can then travel at 27 times the speed of sound (almost 6 miles a second!), which makes it impossible to intercept.
If the Russians based their RS-28 Sarmat or their other nuclear ballistic missiles in Cuba, they would become far more vulnerable to a first strike from the United States, then where they are currently deployed on a rotational bases, in the largest country in the Earth, travelling around the plethora of forests in Russia.
The Second Cuban Missile Crisis analogy, is simply sabre rattling by the Russians, intended for the western media, in the hope that some US Politicians will come to their senses, before it is too late.

The Russian Space Forces have the Pionersky Radar Station near Pionersky, in the Kaliningrad Oblast, which is an early-warning radar station, which is used to detect ballistic missile launches, and it is located only 330 miles from Berlin in Germany.
“Fortunately” for the Russians, they have developed “over the horizon” radar, to allow them to see most of the trajectory. Though the advantage would be marginal, as they would have only a few extra minutes.

What few people fail to realize is that a Russian nuclear hypersonic missile can now be contained and launched from a 40 ft cargo container. Russia and China do not need bases or even subs to put nuclear missiles in close proximity of our cities. They only need cargo ships converted to missile launching platforms that appear to be freighters.
I think that this is the point that is being made, that Nuclear weapons must remain a deterrent, with nobody ever considering a First Strike policy. Ever.
My concern is that the US philosophy is to Dictate, and to Not Negotiate. I believe that their supremacist view of themselves can never allow them to “debase” themselves into discussing or negotiating with any other nation on equal terms. Remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
