I can’t decide whether I feel more disgust or pity for the broad masses who voted regardless for the major parties. As far as I am concerned there were two options: vote Reform, or spoil your ballot (to make it plain you didn’t stay away, but simply couldn’t see any candidate worth voting for).
The masses are what they are. Blame God or Evolution, take your pick.
There has also been a very great deal of deliberate, cynical cheating – something I have not been aware of (on this scale) ever before. Reform stated that, in many constituencies, people who had offered to stand as candidates for Reform suddenly withdrew their support or even gave it to other parties. The election was announced at extremely short notice, putting Reform and independents at a grave disadvantage, because they were not prepared for an election whereas the heavily-funded major parties were. Even earlier than in the USA, the British establishment devised more or less foolproof methods of giving the superficial appearance of democracy while making absolutely sure that the people and their representatives had no chance of ever attaining real power.
Excellent analysis. I don’t have all that knowledge but it did seem to me that Reform had a brilliant result. I can imagine that Nigel Farage, who speaks the language and shares the concerns of the people, will have a field day in Parliament and will wipe the floor with anyone who gets in his way, as he did so successfully with that fat Belgian in the EU.
