Here’s my idea: European countries could become states 52 thru whatever. Europe needs to get together and think thru the future farther out in time than tomorrow. As for Dr Mearsheimer’s thought that the US should calm Europe by recommitting to NATO, I think he is minimizing the US’s financial circumstances that Trump is trying to reverse. Defense and economic financialization have hollowed out the US. Debt is higher than WWII and deficit is 6-7%, both of which are fast tracking the US to calamity. I wrote this esrlier after listening for awhile to a video above this on on the latest here. Applys here also. Mearsheimer did have some brief chances but the “mouth” just cannot seem to shut up and listen. It is so cumbersome to listen to this man. His physical and verbal Idiosyncrasys are so distracting. Gifted individual? No question, but extremely heavy with a bloated ego and some undefined psychological impediment. So, now we come back to the Americans taking over Nordstream 2 and charging high price for gas to Europe, plus other “deals” Russia & USA can cook up, SO that the US agrees that NATO aka USA remains in Europe to keep the peace between 5+ big proud fractious nations who need an over-lord to prevent war breaking out among them because they are not grown up enough to maintain friendly and peaceful relations among themselves.
