Joe Kent is clear and direct about the situation in West Asia. The Shia religion is said to be a “martyrdom religion”, and we have just created the biggest martyr since Imam Ali in the 7th century. There is now a powerful and united Shia crescent that transcends national borders. One theological question here: Isn’t Christianity also a “martyrdom religion”? Christianity all all about the martyrdom of a person they know as “Jesus Christ”. Why is martyrdom such a powerful motivator of religious movements? It is a very interesting question that I will try to explore in another post.
