THE AI WARS – Scott Ritter and Ray McGovern on THE WORLD THIS WEEK

I agree 100% with what Scott Ritter says about “Artificial intelligence”. As a computer programmer myself, I have been saying the same thing since I heard this misnomer many years ago. Human intelligence is not programmable. I just asked my Google AI whether AI is intelligent, and it agrees with Scott and me. Here is what it said:

“If intelligence requires consciousness, self-awareness, genuine understanding, or subjective experience (qualia), then AI is not intelligent.

No Real Comprehension: An AI model does not understand the meaning of the words it generates. For example, it can write a poem about the color blue or describe the taste of an apple without ever experiencing either.

No Sentience: AI feels no emotion, holds no personal beliefs, and has no intent or will of its own. It is a highly sophisticated tool reflecting human-engineered data.

If my AI agrees with me, it must be pretty intelligent, right? How can I say that I’m intelligent and it isn’t? My AI tells me that AI does not understand the meaning of the words it generates. So what is “meaning”? I had a logic teacher once who went through the Gödel proof of the incompleteness of formal systems of logic, which is a proof entirely based on syntax. He used to say that logic had nothing to do with “meaning”, it was all about syntax. Meaning was outside of his purview as a logician. The meaning of words involves their use in communicating between feeling, emotional human beings in the course of their daily lives. Human thinking involving meaning is something qualitatively different from computer processing. The destructive things done by so-called AI embodies the evil intent of its human programmers, who seem to be as emotionally stunted as their machines.
