Why would politicians in a supposedly democratic system not care about their popularity with the voters?

Surely that can happen only if they are getting some other kind of reward. (No names, no pack-drill).

The next election… IF that happens. In my county of Hampshire, and elsewhere, all local elections have been postponed indefinitely pending some unspecified “reorganisation”. Starmer and his gang don’t like elections, because they would lose. So they simply stop them. Today I read the transcript of the MPs’ views on the nearly 3 million people who signed a petition to stop digital ID. It continued for 3 hours, with few allowed more than 3 minutes.
