Judge Nap: If Iran had a nuclear weapon, would the US have attacked it as it did? Prof. Mearsheimer: I think the answer is categorically “no”. As North Korea has demonstrated, nuclear weapons command respect from countries like the US and Israel that have no moral constraints against violence and aggression. Prof. Mearsheimer says that if he were an Iran policymaker, he would do everything to make sure Iran does get nuclear weapons. Some people, such as Scott Ritter, keep insisting that Iran does not need nuclear weapons, and that a security agreement involving Russia and China is a much better solution. I hope Scott is right.
