A dual grand slam winner, Svetlana Kuznetsova won 6-2 6-4 in one hour and 31 minutes ending the run of Polish Agnieszka Radwanska today.

The 32-year-old Svetlana played beautifully and relentlessly. Her 18 winners in the first set were accurate angled shots, brutally struck off forehands. She was also 100% on break points, embracing both opportunities that came her way:

“I felt like I was dictating. I could control.”

Exactly ten years ago, en route to the Russian’s last quarterfinal here, a 22-year-old Kuznetsova and an 18-year-old Radwanska faced each other at one of the WTA Tour’s most long-standing rivalries in the third round of The Championships. Kuznetsova won 6-2, 6-3 on that day, as well as 13 of their next 17 encounters:

“When you look at the statistics, it’s amazing. But I felt like I have been there, so it’s just another quarterfinals.”

Last week Kuznetsova crushed Tunisian Ons Jabeur and Slovenian Polona Hercog.

She will therefore be in the quarter-finals on Tuesday playing with Garbine Muguruza of Spain.

This will be her fourth quarter-final at the All England Club – but first in a decade.

Kuznetsova has not reached a quarterfinal at Wimbledon since 2007, and she has never been beyond that round at SW19. The Russian has reached the last eight at a major for the first time since 2014 Roland Garros.

Let’s wish luck to Svetlana!
