Trump, just by being honest and calling a spade a spade, sends the hypocritical West into panic mode. And it’s clear which world leaders Trump respects and which ones he considers fools. He would never act towards Putin the way he did towards Trudeau and Zelensky.

To my mind, the only important principle that governs Russia’s willingness to negotiate is: “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me”. Actually, Mr Putin has deliberately allowed the West to cheat him several times, but I think he has now learned his lesson. I can never understand the thinking of people who believe in international treaties, institutions, courts, and “law”. Between nations, the ONLY factor that means anything is raw power. Diplomacy and negotiations boil down, essentially, to suave threats and bargains. No treaty is worth the paper it is written on – unless both… Read more »

After 20 January, once Trump sends his emissairies to Europe, he might choose to discover that President Zelenskiy had been lying about casualty figures, and other information, and this “discovery” might prompt the Trump team to disown Ukraïne, under the pretext of “having only just learned” that Kyiv had been duping the whole world all along. Then, the entire western media would have the same reason to turn against their [exclusive] Ukraïnian media sources,… Read more »

I agree with AlexC that Gen Kellogg is apparently too uninformed to inspire confidence or demonstrate the necessary gravitas for dealing with the Russians. I’m sure he’s a good man and a good soldier, but for ending this situation a figure more like Orban is required. It’s very strange to me that Trump doesn’t employ his VP. Vance is a serious person and if he’s to be the future of the MAGA movement, he needs the experience. As a top manager, Trump needs to let his team rack up some victories instead of claiming it all for himself.
