I’m sure Putin must be fed up and vexed with his pet two headed rattlesnake Erdogan. No chance of getting any sustained deal from him. Kill all his terrorists, I hope a big bunch of them waded into the cauldron for termination. Anyway at least remain polite to the snake, don’t want him getting upset and trying to close the Bosphorus straight to Russia. I wouldn’t try to do any more deals with him, maybe just find subtle ways to make his life miserable.
I’m afraid that “Islamist” isn’t really any better than “jihadist” as a description of the terrorists attacking Syria. What they are doing has absolutely nothing to do with Islam, as most of their victims and intended victims are Muslims.
They are terrorists plain and simple – paid by the USA and any of its associates who can be persuaded to do so. As far as they are concerned, the more chaos and death the better.
They are mercinaries being driven by greed and religious fanaticism, just the same as the Israelis. Religion can be a very evil thing, when it turns fanatic.
I find it very hard indeed to imagine what Mr al-Assad has to discuss with Mr Erdogan. The latter would like to help himself to further lumps of Syria – to add to Antakya province, which Turkey stole from Syria in 1938-9 while the French were distracted. Ideally, Antakya should be restored to Syria. Certainly no more territory should be given. So Mr al-Assad’s part in the dialogue with Mr Erdogan would be limited to “No!”
If Turkey and Russia have been working closely, why is Turkey now stabbing Russia in the back by attacking Syria?
Mr Mercouris says that Russia is obliged to accept Turkey’s treacherous behaviour while the Ukraine SMO continues. Doesn’t that imply that it is in Mr Erogan’s (perceived) interest to prolong the fighting in Ukraine for as long as possible?
The apparently low morale and possible lack of patriotism in Iraq and Syria may well be a consequence of the fact that both nations are entirely artificial, with borders arbitrarily imposed by Western powers at Versailles in 1919. For centuries before that, the whole region was ruled by the Turkish Ottoman Empire, so there was hardly any basis for patriotism. In contrast Iran goes back at least 2500 years and Turkey for about 900 years.
Palestine, of course, is still more of a melting pot.
Ah! A very cold winter. Inevitable, really, in view of the anthropogenic global warming which will very soon boil us all alive. If it’s hot, that’s because of AGW. If it’s cold, that’s also because of AGW. It’s amusing, in a sour way, to notice how the various networks of government lies interact with one another. Because it’s so terribly hot, we need more gas to keep us warm – which costs more because we are ceasing to use fossil fuels because they heat us up, and because our governments have refused to buy cheap reliable gas from Russia. Partly… Read more »
I’m confused. 🙂 Not Really.
The world is a far worse place because Israel exists. Israel needs to go away.
