Russia to help UAE train its first astronaut team

The United Arab Emirates will discuss training the first UAE astronauts with the Russian state space corporation Roscosmos at the Dubai Airshow.

ABU DHABI (Sputnik) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will discuss the details of the project to train the first UAE astronauts with the Russian state space corporation Roscosmos at the Dubai Airshow, to be held in November, UAE Space Agency Director General Mohammad Nasser Ahbabi told Sputnik on Thursday:

“During the International Astronautical Congress, we discussed with the Russian corporation Roscosmos the possibilities of cooperation in the training of astronauts, to subsequently send them on board Soyuz spacecraft to the International Space Station, how we can train them in cosmonaut training centers in Russia.

We plan to hold talks with the Russian side for specific discussion of the project’s details in November at the Dubai Airshow.”

Ahbabi also said the UAE Space Agency and Roscosmos planned to establish a joint technical committee to implement space projects.
