The beginning of negotiations is for the West to stop supporting Ukraine. Just stop.
Unfortunately the West are the ones who pushed the idea in the first place. First by the overthrow of the legitimate Ukrainian Government in 2014. Then by Boris Johnson to prevent a treaty.
A sobering angle on the reality for how this will play out. Never fully considered this, but it absolutely hits home.
I personally think that people overestimate Trump’s need to feed his ego, over just doing the damn right thing.
I’m going to cross my fingers that Trump is THE man I want to believe him to be.
I have been shocked by so many things since Trumps victory, that I will continue my unbridled optimism.
I don’t think Trump has any desire for confrontation and war with Russia. I suspect this will be coming to a quick end. Never needed to happen in the first place.
Leaders of NATO countries, having been led into this Ukraine trap by Biden, (the same Biden, who Europe much preferred over Trump,) are going to look like the complete fools that they are once Trump is President again. There is no doubt that Trump sees this war as Biden’s folly. For which he -Trump bears no responsibility. In fact, Trump will likely use it to ridicule the idiocy of what Biden has been doing in Ukraine. Don’t forget that Trump was impeached over asking Zelensky what exactly the Biden crime family was up to in Ukraine. Trump has nothing to… Read more »
Mr Mercouris suggests that, as Mr Trump was elected on a platform of desire for peace, he will try to seek peace.
I remember, however, that both Woodrow Wilson and FDR were elected on explicit promises to avoid war – and that both promptly, and quite deliberately, involved the USA in their respective world wars.
US politicians have never represented “the people”. They have always represented the interests of those who pay.
That was then. Before nukes and missiles. The “enemy” was a nation in Central Europe the physical size of an American State. The stakes are a wee bit higher now. And Trump is not struggling financially.
If, however, Russia did not have an awesome array of missiles and nukes like they do now, I suspect the game would be on already.
“European leaders have doubled their commitment…”
One must bear in mind that “commitment” means something quite different in the context of politics. Essentially, “Hot air intended to gain a temporary advantage or get out of a temporary difficulty. Typically forgotten within a week”.
“Not spending enough on defence” means “Not spending enough on American weapons”.
A tiny update… “Keep the Americans in, the Russians out, and the Ukrainians down”.
And turn Germany into a collection of sheep herders. God forbid the Germans and Russians should figure out they’re on the same team.
Washington has never been “the world’s policeman”. It has always been the world’s Godfather.
All these discussions would begin to make more sense if one were to eschew the word “defence” in connection with the US government. The USA has not needed any defence since the War of 1812 – which, by the way, it started. I suggest replacing “defence” with “aggression”, passim. E.g. “Department of Aggression” (“DoA”), “Aggression budget”, “Aggression industry”, etc.
Sounds like an excellent idea. I will start using this terminology.to describe the Agression Department of the DSA (Divided States of America).
Th attack on Kazan merely demonstrates that virtually no part of Russia, despite its immense size, is immune to attack by the West. By pretending that the drones are Ukrainian, the West maintains our old friend “plausible deniability”. The idea seems clear enough: to undermine Russian civilian morale by suggesting that no one is safe.
Of course that whole idea is radically wrong. In WW2 massive bombing only made German and British civilians more determined (and the British more vengeful).
I hate to tell you, Alexander, that the US Zionist Deep State absolutely does NOT want a stable peaceful situation in/for Russia. The Ashkenazi, aka ex-East European, Zionist diaspora, that runs the US & UK, will NEVER give up on their 100+ years objective & campaign of destroying Russia.
