The US Navy has long admitted experimenting to see if dolphins could be used militarily. The idea of using dolphins as last lines of defence against underwater terrorists was broached very seriously in the months and years immediately after 9/11. In September 2005, a few days after Hurricane Katrina, the Pentagon issued a statement saying all of its dolphins had been accounted for. The DOD (should be DOO – Dept. of Offence) said its dolphins were not trained to attack, just to look for “objects” with their accompanying divers.
