What a contrast between (for instance) Mr Hegseth and Mr Belousov! Amateur (or, to be frank, dilettante) versus seasoned professional.
The British media are upset that Mr Trump did not get a “deal”. Of course a deal is always available; all that is necessary is to accept all of Russia’s conditions.
Since the West understands a “deal” as an arrangement whereby they gain and others lose, a deal in that sense is quite impossible.

Hearing Mr Mercouris’ words about the delusory hopes of Europeans, I was reminded of this:

It is quite funny when you realise that the real talks were held behind closed doors and the only outsiders were the interpreters. What everyone is analysing and over-analysing are just the crumbs dropped as, like sparrows, they wander round the lunch table to pick up what they can.
