One of the 81 known faults of the F16 is that they are very vulnerable during take-off. I have read that until they have levelled off, their avionics suite is sometime unpredictable. Locking on to targets in defence is not always successful during launch. But I’m sure the Russians know that. They also know that the much-hyped F16 is not as maneouverable in combat as the Sukhoi. Plus, the F16 has to have an exceptionally ‘clean’ runway in order to take off. The Russians don’t need to bomb the runways, just drop debris on them!
