As Dr Noam Chomsky has often remarked, when the US government calls any other government “democratic” it means that that government is unquestioningly obedient to Washington and acts in the interests of American corporations. Whereas when Washington calls another government a “dictatorship”, it means that it governs in the interests of its own nation and its people.

If Mr Trump decides to impose prohibitive tariffs on Chinese goods, he will prevent most US citizens from buying those goods affordably. Many such goods are not even made in the USA. There are many other very large markets into which China can sell.

This Machado woman is calling for the overthrow of the duly elected president of Venezuela to put herself in his place.
