He let the EU wag the dog
He should have threatened the EU with agree or face bone crushing tariffs and withdrawal from nato.
and He should have threatened Zelensky with agree or face arrest for war crimes.
Great recap on yesterday, and resets my brain a bit on the degree of Trump success in this meeting. I don’t think people understand the deep damage Zelensky made with his stunt at the White House just five weeks into Trump’s new term (Feb 2025). It was a very public display of scorn toward Trump, and Trump paid dearly, politically. A poll a week later in the American public put the blame squarely on Trump and Vance for causing that event (like nearly 2/3rds) with little blame toward Zelensky. Whenever there is a meeting, and the West does not accept Putin’s demands for peace, Russia should announce it will take 2-3 weeks to consider the issues, and will not agree to any meeting during that period. Then continue to take territory in Ukraine.
This would give the West a huge incentive to acknowledge reality and accept the reasonable offer that Putin has made.
Very embarassing. Just a pitch for Trump’s bid for the Nobel Peace Prize. It’s all theatre. He couldn’t give a stuff about the actual peace process. He trumpets selling weapons to the EU,which they can’t afford and the US can’t really deliver. It’s all a nothing burger. Trump was more excited about all the EU leaders coming to see him than anything else and crowed about it on social media. A cringefest.
