If the Sage of Baltimore, H. L. Mencken, were around today, he would throw up his hands in horror and say “I give up.” 🙂
As Mencken once said: For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.
This price cap idea is madcap. They may as well decree that the tides stop ebbing and flowing.
In mathematics, we often look at problems by examining extremes. For examining world population issues, let us ask what would happen if there were 100 Billion people. How would that work out?
Nukes are there. No agreement will change that. Best learn how to deal with them in a calm and rational manner instead of hysterically.
I see that Tom has an opinion on Nabiullina which I tend to agree with. Nice.
But Tom’s idea of Russia importing foreign labor is a problem. Short term solution which can turn into long term disaster. Germany bringing in Turks is a quintessential example. Sorry, but your National Gene Pool is way more important than a few new roads.
It’s logical for a nation to follow its national interests. It helps if the leaders of that nation are bright enough to actually understand what those are.
For example, during WWI the German leaders thought it was in their national interest to promote communism in Russia. How did that work out in the long run.
Any country that would put in Macron as their leader is clearly hopeless.
For Putin, the EU should be at about the level of a good British Comedy. How about “Would I lie to you.” Fits perfectly.
Odessa goes to Russia. End of story. Any other outcome is unthinkable.
The Kazarian mafia will be apoplectic with that outcome.
Great discussion! 🙂
Thanks Tom, I think you just made the case for the rest of the world’s indebted nations to repudiate their western debts as odious burdens. Time will tell.
