As Dr Noam Chomsky has often explained, when Washington calls a country a “democracy”, that is code for a country whose government unquestioningly obeys all orders from Washington and acts entirely in the interests of US corporations.
Whereas a “dictatorship” is a country, whatever its form of government, that is run in the interests of its own people.

I understand that the treaty constituting NATO provides no way of expelling a member state against its will. Spain could decide to leave NATO, although what pressure would be necessary to bring that about I cannot guess.
