If you’re desperate, you don’t go off on another hopeless endeavor and expect good results. You quit fighting. Why make it worse?

A theory about gamblers is that subconsciously they are trying to make God, or Fate, or the universe, show love for them. Just as parents (well, mothers anyway) are disposed to forgive even the worst of behaviour. Just as Jesus Christ taught his disciples to forgive, not unto seven times, but unto seventy times seven. So, no matter how hopeless things look, and no matter how foolish or even criminal the gambler has been, he hopes that the world will come through, relent, and prove its love for him. It helps if one can distinguish between hope and hopeless.
Just as, when going to fight a war, it helps if you know who the real enemy is.
Ignorance may be bliss until the bomb explodes.
Hysterical behavior is usually not the best way to solve problems.
