Russia has had to appeal to the North Koreans for troops in desperation. The advances on the battlefield have completely stalled. The number of countries bordering with Russia that have placed nukes pointed at it have increased exponentially. It seems unfortunate that the Russian Memorandum did not start with a list of commitments initialed by Ukraïne in April 2022. It might also have been appropriate to explicitly state the number of estimated military casualties since April 2022. Not only would this have emphasised the fact that the current peace talks are a resumption of the April 2022 negotiations, it would also have revealed how beneficial the earlier deal had been, compared to the current terms. Even President Trump had pointed out that the April 2022 deal had been a great opportunity for Ukraïne.
I would add that I was very surprised to learn here that some bases, that were attacked, were housing nuclear weapons. Under such circumstances, I would expect the President of the Russian Federation to immediately raise the nuclear alert levels, and to directly contact the President of the United States on the telephone hotline, not only to request clarifications, but to insist that appropriate corrective measures be taken by both sides.
