Ironically, the “weak security” of which some people complain is the inevitable flip side of the relative freedom and democracy in Russia. I suspect that such important people would get far more security in the USA or UK – to the detriment of ordinary citizens going about their business.

Actually, Alexandre, judging by the numerous and “sweeping” pardons that President Biden is issuing in his final days in power, I would argue that some individuals in the US are indeed most afraid of being called to account and being prosecuted for decisions they have made, with respect to Ukraïne, at least. Having personally worked at the ECCC / UNAKRT, in Cambodia, I feel that US leaders were very fearful that the Cambodian Court was going to issue rulings and verdicts concerning the US bombing of their country in 1969-1970, and acted in order to prevent this.
On the issue of Romania’s canceled elections, remember that Canada never canceled its own 2011 federal election, even though a Canadian court of law had ruled that the robot call campaign had been, in fact, a crime, and not just some electroral trick. The campaign had sent voters to the wrong polling stations in order to prevent them from voting. Hundreds of voters had been harmfully impacted, but the elections commissioner never re-recheduled those elections, even though its office had been the first victim of the duplicity!
