Unbelievable. On the anniversary of Oct 7, Mercouris leads with a slam against Hamas and sympathy for the zionists. He obviously forgot, or maybe he never learned, that the Oct 7 military attack was a response to 75 years of brutal Israeli occupation; that according to the Geneva Convention, the Palestinians have a right to resist the occupying force; that Israel’s disproportionate response, whereby now almost 200,000 Palestinians are dead or wounded and Israel has now attacked Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Iran, is a war crime; and that the relatively few “hostages” captured by Hamas were meant to be exchanged… Read more »
Nevertheless, I tend to agree with Alexander’s position on this tragedy. I would even add that I see little purpose in hanging on to hostages, and would prefer to see them all released unilaterally. Even if such a move is overdue, there is more to be gained than lost in their release. By now, Hamas has earned a full year of Israël’s humiliation. By returning all hostages in accordance to the UNSC’s authority, it would earn even greater prestige, and would prove to the world that it is Hamas that has won this conflicts. Beofre October 7th for many many years vctims taken as hostages by Isreal might well have been returned, with your help, or someone elses. But they werent. That’s in additon to the rest of the long continued atrocities upon the Plaestinians. SO what should the Plaestinian sons and fathers do … give up? What’s more, its clear to see the hostages mean nothing to the Isreal government; only thie rintent to destroy Palestine. They coul dhave easily been returned in an exchange, instead, were nit not for an intended genocide. How far can you take your anlyis? Mr Mercouris , when he states, ‘taking hostages is a war crime’ and thinks that is enough of a conclusion, is pretending not to see. Moral vision and courage abandoned. That contributes to the continued inhumanity, and terrible terrible (yes I am crying crying) suffering of Palestinans. By this, he too has ceased to be human.
