Putin did have a choice. He could have just informed Zelensky that they would treat Kiev the same way Ukraine treated the Donbass. Using missiles.

If the “Global South” needs the Ukrainians and Russians to feed them, they are overpopulated. Artificial fertilizers are one of the biggest mistakes humans have made. The “Green Revolution” is the “Green Disaster”.

The expression “Global South” has to be done away with….retired from use. It implies this grouping to be “just one part of the world”. Whereas in fact the Global South IS THE WORLD….over 90% of it….and “The West” is just a small 10% part.

Sorry A.M., but it lowers you own credibility to state that there is some merit in an academic who, even at this point, believes Putin had alternatives and didn’t have to launch a “war of aggression.” After an illegal coup in 2014; failed Minsk agreements (where the German and Ukrainian signers admitted they were never serious about the treaties); numerous speeches calling for peace by Putin at various security conferences; and a last-ditch attempt by Putin in December 2021 to try and get some security guarantees for Russia from NATO — after all these attempts, it boggles the mind that… Read more »

Oh, Alex….”academic standing” as a criterion for judging an argument.? Also: “lengthy and cogent”? As a former academic (Fulbright) , we are taught to write long, complicated polemics– pages on pages, when 25 words. If you found the argument interesting, it would have been of benefit to your listeners, If you explained the main points of the argument vis a vis McGovern’s. I am a BIG fan of your commentaries and you usually superb analyses BTW.So perhaps I am nitpicking;
