Before it was the “Cuban” Missile Crisis, it was the “Turkish” one. Col. Macgregor mistakenly expressed the analogy of the Cuban Missile Crisis as it was viewed by the U.S., which is not equivalent to NATO & nukes in Ukraine viewed by Putin as a threat as Macgregor stated. More accurately, the Soviet Union had first been threatened by the U.S.’s installed long-range nuclear missiles in Turkey, which prompted S.U.’s reaction. This is a common error that identifies the crisis purely from the U.S. point of view, removing the critical context.

Thanks for pointing this out. Nice to see some historical truth.

As you indicate, the “Cuban Missile Crisis” was in fact precipitated by the USA positioning strategic nuclear missiles in Turkey, just a stone’s throw from Moscow.

The USSR’s placement of missiles in Cuba was their response to that provocative and hostile American action.

The USA paints itself as the heroic victim, but in reality the USA was the villain then, and the USA is the villain now.

Nothing has changed.
