This discussion is about the relations between countries, but it lacks the appreciation of the economic and financial underpinning of the conflict that we heard in the previously posted discussion with Michael Hudson. The US empire is a financial empire of debt that has lost its military ability to force other countries to service them, and they must sooner or later be repudiated. When this debt structure is gone, a new structure of international law can be created. Will it require a major war, like the Thirty Years War that led to the Treaty of Westphalia, or the First and Second World Wars that led to the United Nations? Diesen and Lukyanov think it is likely. In the 20th century case, what united the world was the defeat of German and Japanese militarism. In this 21st century case, the world is being united against the whole Western Empire by its intolerable predatory practices. They are going to develop new international institutions to manage conflicts and promote economic cooperation. The United States, shorn of its empire, will have to join this “new world order”.
