Einar Tangen: Russia, China, Iran and India Build a New World Order at the SCO Summit

The question is whether humanity can make it out of the age of Western colonial barbarism to a new age of civilization where there is cooperation rather than competition over natural resources and differences are settled by negotiation and compromise, not war. Einar Tangen says that such negotiations have to be made on the basis of “shared values”. I would say that these are values of justice, of right and wrong that are universal because they are derived from our common human tradition, values that apply both to individuals and countries. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was a coalition against terrorism at first, but it has become increasingly involved in economic relations almost like another BRICS. The four major world powers have long been considered to be the US, Russia, China and India, but I would say that Iran, which is a full member of both organizations, has joined them in geopolitical importance by virtue of its victory in the Iran war. The world is still bipolar as it was during the Cold War – it is still really just the Anglo-European empire against the rest of the world. India, however, is trying to stay non-aligned, but the US hegemonic behavior is making it hard to do so. The question is when the United States will realize that its days as hegemon and world bully are over and that it must become part of a new, peaceful world order being built in the East.
