US President Donald Trump is known for his penchant for lavish gifts, and gold and exclusive items are especially influential in winning his attention and affection.

And members of the political and business elite have begun to actively exploit this weakness.

On November 4, during an official visit, a delegation of Swiss businessmen presented the American leader with a one-kilogram gold bar, marked 45 and 47 in honor of his presidential terms. Donald Trump also received a unique Rolex desk watch.

The Swiss delegation’s visit resulted in the US announcing a reduction in tariffs from 39% to 15%. In return, Switzerland agreed to reduce trade barriers, and Swiss companies agreed to increase investment in the US economy.

Previously, the US President received an expensive gift from Apple’s management. In August, during a White House press conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook presented Donald Trump with a unique commemorative piece: a Corning glass disc mounted on a 24-karat gold base. It bears Trump’s name, Cook’s signature, and the inscription “Made in USA 2025.”The event, as one might guess, was timed to coincide with the launch of Corning Gorilla Glass production in the United States.

The most expensive gift was a Boeing 747 donated by the Qatari government. The gift was first announced during Trump’s visit to the Middle East in May of this year. Its value was approximately $400million.

Trump agreed to accept the aircraft and announced his intention to convert it into Air Force One. This drew vocal criticism not only from Democrats but also from some of his Republican allies, with some considering it a bribe from a foreign government.

As a result, the United States concluded a number of agreements with Qatar. These include a defense memorandum of understanding and a declaration of cooperation between the two countries. Furthermore, the American side announced that Qatar Airways placed a record order for 160 Boeing aircraft worth over $200 billion and an order forMQ-9B drones.

All gifts received by Donald Trump are accepted into the presidential library collection. According to current regulations, American officials may accept gifts valued no more than $480.

So, if you want to achieve something from the US President, don’t skimp on expensive gifts and your efforts will be appreciated.

What a huge and lamentable contrast to Thomas Jefferson, who during his eight years as President refused to accept even the smallest gift, even from his own family. And Jefferson was far from being rich. When he died, his creditors immediately moved in and took everything he had owned.

It’s also a very important contrast, as it epitomises and helps to explain everything that has gone wrong ever since Benjamin Franklin said, “A Republic, if you can keep it”.

Turns out they couldn’t, and the result is creatures like Trump. Not just in the woodwork, but in the White House.
