Chas Freeman on Trump’s Lawless Behavior

Ambassador Chas Freeman, who is our most senior diplomat (long retired) is perhaps the most anti-Trump analyst that we regularly post, because Trump is violating all the constitutional and international laws that Chas operated by for his whole career, which started with being a translator on Richard Nixon’s meeting with Mao in China in 1972. Trump is also as non-diplomatic as it is possible to imagine. The Trump administration is also lying through its teeth about the murder of Alex Pretti and others, as everyone can plainly see from the videos of the murders everywhere. In this interview, Judge Nap shows a static image from one of these videos that isolates the moment when the “Homeland Security” person shot Alex Pretti in the back, who had already been blinded by pepper spray and disarmed. He did have a gun, but he had a legal license for a concealed carry and never took it out or threatened anyone with it. The hypocrisy of the Second Amendment supporters who defended Kyle Rittenhouse’s right to carry a gun to the Black Lives Matter riots, which he actually used to kill three people (in self-defense, as a jury found) is unfathomable. The American people can see with pellucid clarity that their government is lying to them. Trump’s polling numbers are plummeting. The bond market is wobbling. The midterms are approaching. He could lose the House and the Senate, get impeached, convicted and sent to jail for the rest of his life.

What is the definition of “globalist”? It can mean a ruling class of finance capitalists, like the ones at Davos, who have no national allegiance either to the United States or any other country. This globalism opposes national sovereignty. But it can also mean what Chas means here, which is also Xi Jinping’s meaning of “globalist”. In this sense it just means that every country is part of the world economy. In this sense, the BRICS countries are “globalist”. This concept does not contradict that of national sovereignty. The phrase “free trade” also has two meanings. It can mean the British economic system of imperial exploitation in which imperialists are “free” tp exploit their colonies, or it can mean that all sovereign countries should be free to trade in ways that serve their national interest.

The discussion ends with a question about China and the dismissal by Xi of a top Chinese general. This may have been done over differences about Taiwan. Chas thinks this may be a harbinger of Chinese action against Taiwan, but they intend to do it without using military force if possible, just intimidation and making Taiwan an offer it can’t refuse. So Trump is not the only one who is trying such tactics. It’s probably going to work for Trump with Denmark and Greenland, and it will probably work for Xi as well.
