Chas Freeman: Consequences of the Iran War

Chas Freeman: “How long will the American public be willing to arm Israel for wars that are either genocidal or utterly illegal, purposeless, and which draw the United States into them? I don’t know the answer to that question.”

The US is going to be unable to maintain a presence in the Gulf. It also is not going to be able to maintain influence in Europe. NATO is essentially dead.

Chas Freeman: “I think it’s not easy for the United States to accept withdrawal. On the other hand, the Trump administration on a theoretical level has come up with a reformulation of American global strategy that posits an essential retreat to the western hemisphere. Of course, the approach they propose to take to the western hemisphere is entirely hegemonic, coercive, militaristic and will be stoutly resisted by countries like Brazil, Peru, others course is resisted by Mexico uh where I went to university for a while. So that is a part of the world that I understand I think uh and it’s a very proud part of the world. I don’t think it’s going to accept this revision of the Monroe Doctrine uh by Donald Trump. ”

What will happen to Israel if the US gets out of West Asia? Chas Freeman says that Israel will have to undergo “regime change” to a government that no longer pursues a “greater Israel” policy. It looks to me like this regime change would be effected by a military defeat inflicted by all of the countries and resistance forces in the area. Withdrawal would of course be fiercely resisted by the Zionists, who have been Trump’s major financiers for his entire career since he somehow miraculously escaped six bankruptcies without consequence. For this he got credit for being a genius businessman!? He faces defeat in the midterms which the weakening power of the Israel Lobby will not be able to prevent. He still has fanatical Zionists and warmongers around him which are advocating a final all-out attack on Iran, and they have no qualms about using nuclear weapons. Iran is almost certainly building them as fast as it can, which should be a matter of a few weeks. The nuclear proliferation genie is out of the bottle, and Saudi Arabia will get them from Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey will develop them, and so will South Korea and Japan, which has enough plutonium to make thousands of nuclear weapons. Any country capable of developing or buying nuclear weapons will get them, unless Russia and China can find some diplomatic means of preventing it.

Chas concludes by sayin, “We are facing a midterm election which at the moment all things being equal he will decisively lost. Therefore he’s trying to prevent voters from being able to vote. A huge effort being done on on that. You know, we are living in a post-democratic order in the United States and whether we can ever recover our republic uh is a matter of conjecture and I don’t know what the answer is.“
