We are in maximum danger of a renewed attack on Iran in the next week. Trump may have a window to attack of two months, up to the convening of the new Congress on January 3. At that point Congress can assert its Constitutional power to prevent Trump from ordering an attack. Netanyahu has a much shorter window, perhaps until November 9, when the new Knesset convenes. At that point, Israeli president Herzog is likely to ask opposition leader Gaddi Eisenkot to form a coalition government, and some of the Palestinians who were elected have indicated that they might join the coalition in spite of the requirement that they state their support for the existence of the Zionist state. Once Herzog has asked Eisenkot to form a government, he becomes a prime minister in waiting and Bibi loses the power to declare war. If Bibi can get the war started now, he can form a national unity government and stay in power. So Bibi is desperate for war now, in the next few days, and he is doubtless putting maximum pressure on Trump to join him. I’m sure he has pulled out all the material in the Epstein files. Even though an attack would be utterly irrational and destructive, it may happen like a Greek tragedy, where everybody around them, as well as the chorus and the audience, understands this, but they do it anyway because it is the inevitable result of flaws in their nature deeply buried in their past.
