The Iran war is an unmitigated disaster for Trump. Everything he does makes it worse. He has temporarily stopped the “tit for tat” exchange with Iran and is once again looking for something like the MoU that he previously signed and then violated every point within days to try some more bullying tactics, which make things worse. But now the Iranians are going to be much tougher and demand many more concessions up front. If they say no MoU, no offramp until Israel gets out of Lebanon for real, what will Trump do? He is in a very weak position.

Meanwhile, in Ukraine, Russia is moving at a steadily increasing pace. The Russian public does want this war over and with nothing less than a complete victory. Prof. Mearsheimer has been saying that the war will end with an “ugly peace” something like Korea. He keeps saying that Russia does not want to conquer all of Ukraine. Now he is beginning to waffle on that – he now says that Russia is clearly winning and the interesting question is what they will consider victory. I will give him the answer to that question. A complete victory means the accomplishment of the objectives of the war as stated on the first day by Vladimir Putin: the demilitarization and de-Nazification of Ukraine. Yes, Putin wants a neutral Ukraine, but it cannot be “neutralized” without being occupied all the way to the Polish border. All of Ukraine must be a buffer zone. No part of it can be occupied by NATO or UkroNazis. They must all be liquidated. Nothing less constitutes victory or will satisfy the Russian people.
