I think that Alex was walking around Syntagma ..jeepers…as a teenage hitchhiking around Europe in the early sixties I had many a Fix Lager sitting outside Papaspiros (which was sited underneath Amex.) Memories are made of this!

It seems curious that these conflicts have erupted in Syria just after Assad visited Putin. Were the Syrians emboldened by Putin saying that he would support them? We know that he has not, as yet, deployed the main body of the Russian army in Ukraine. Perhaps Putin is confident that he could spare enough soldiers and pilots to assist Syria in booting out the Americans – especially as the US is failing everywhere in the Middle East and other countries in the area might offer assistance too. There is a good deal going on in the Middle East. Relations are being improved between Syria and Turkey, between SA and Syria, between SA and Iran. I think now Russia will no longer restrain Syria, Iran, Turkey in their actions in Syria against the US. I think the end is near for that base.
There is a missing piece to the developing situation in NE Syria. Where are the Kurds? The US troops are not supposed to be isolated there. The Kurds are supposed to be US allies. I believe that part of the revenues (officially, the bulk of these revenues ) from the appropriated oil goes to support the Kurd fighting groups. Are the Kurds letting the US troops get hammered?
