MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia categorically opposes extradition of Russian nationals to the United States, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksey Meshkov said Wednesday commenting on two recent cases where Russians were handed over to the United States by Greek and Spanish courts.

Earlier in the day, a Greek court in Thessaloniki ruled to grant the request for the extradition of Russian national Alexander Vinnik on charges of laundering $4 billion. A Spanish court ruled to extradite Russian national Pyotr Levashov, accused by US authorities of malicious hacking, to the United States on Tuesday.

“We are categorically against the extradition of our nationals to foreign countries, in this case to the United States. The US judicial system does not match the norms of European law in general,”

he told reporters.
