In the quid pro quo relationship there is no vassal, it’s a team effort. They’re both dog and tail and they wag each other depending on the issue. Hence all the Israel lobbies in DC. Regarding traditional vassalage, it’s usually determined by military capability. In this sense Israel is the vassal, however, they’ve been smart and balanced the playing field using tools such as Epstein island. My point is, you’d need to look at every case individually to see who is wagging the other at any particular time which seems like a wasted effort since they’re all in it together… Read more »

I admit I had to look it up: “vassal. noun. vas·​sal ˈvas-əl. : a person in the Middle Ages who received protection and land from a lord in return for loyalty and service.” According to that definition, Israel is the vassal who receives protection and land from the US, except that it is the US that has to provide the loyalty and service – AND THE MONEY AND THE WEAPONS.
