MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament, said Wednesday he considered incumbent President Vladimir Putin as the only candidate for the next presidential term.
“My candidate is one and his name is Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin,”
Volodin told reporters answering the question of whether he was planning to run for president next year.
“I do not think in any other way. I believe that this is the man who proved with his life and his deeds his love for the country, and provided effective solutions to the problems,”
Volodin stressed.

He further stated:
“Our society should unite around the president, because the challenges that the country faces, the problems that the country has to overcome, they can be effectively resolved only through consolidation.”
Presidential elections in Russia are set for March 18, 2018.
