Voting in the wilds of Siberia and the rural lands of Russia is a lot different than it is in Russian cities, or in America

Russia is the largest nation on Earth. With over 6.6 million square miles (17.125 million square kilometers), it is almost twice as large as each of the next three largest nations – Canada, China and the United States. The country spans 11 time zones.

But with 77 percent of Russia’s population located in the western third of the country, this means that when one conducts the Presidential elections, there are many miles to cross and quite a bit of hardship to bring the voting services to people everywhere across the land.

This short collection of photos, courtesy of the Associated Press, Reuters, RIA / Novosti and vKontakte, show what it looks like as people out in the countryside chose the candidate they wanted for President of the Russian Federation for the term between 2012 and 2018. We can expect more such scenes tomorrow.

We at RussiaFeed.com hope you enjoy this brief glimpse into Russian life!
