Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accepted an invitation to hold talks with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, over Ankara’s military offensive in northeast Syria

The meeting between the two leaders will take place at the Black Sea resort of Sochi on October 22, a statement by Erdogan’s office said on Wednesday. It gave no further details.

Putin invited Erdogan “for a working visit in the coming days”, the Russian leader’s office said on Tuesday. “The invitation was accepted,” it added.

Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Putin, meanwhile, denied speculation that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would join the Russian and Turkish leaders for trilateral talks. Russia is Syria’s main military backer.

Last week, US President Donald Trump abruptly announced the withdrawal of US troops from the northeast region of Syria, clearing the way for a cross-border military campaign by Turkey.

Turkey’s offensive, now into its eighth day, is aimed at pushing back Kurdish-led forces from the border area and creating a “safe zone” for the return of Syrian refugees.

Ankara regards the Syrian-Kurdish fighters as “terrorists” linked to Kurdish separatists on its soil.

Following the US withdrawal, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) pivoted to an unlikely alliance with the Syrian government, who have since deployed troops to the border region.

Russia and Iran are staunch allies of the Syrian government and Moscow has moved quickly to fill the void left by the US troops’ withdrawal, deploying its military to act as a buffer as Syrian government forces moved north under the deal with the Syrian Kurdish forces.

The phrase “Comes the time, comes the man” is apropos. The Putin/Lavrov team will be a case study for historians. He/they have short circuited a “divide and ruin” strategy perpetuated by the western deep states. In this area I would not overlook Israel’s “contribution” to this evil policy. Putin’s position of “be right and sit tight” without succumbing to emotional needs to “do something” when provoked by idiots and psychopaths gives me hope for civilization. All the critics of Putin should just consider the need for a true long view of what is the greater good. Of course, they won’t… Read more »

The US is always on the side of the terrorists and did so in Afghanistan, Chechnya, Bosnia, Kosovo, Libya, Egypt, Syria and Yemen. Trump has just released 5 million dollars to the Syrian Al-Qaeda group known as the “white helmets”. More of this below:

I agree with Marcus that Putin/Lavrox will be a master class for future historians of diplomacy. I actually think that if anything Alexander underrates their skill as their hand was actually pretty weak, but could not have been played better. The Russian military was far weaker than the US and allies (illegal) presence in Syria – I think France alone had a comparable number of warplanes. Perhaps, their most effective weapon was that they were patently trustworthy and true to their word. The USA and West in particular have become a byword in perfidy, dishonesty and double crossing everybody. IS… Read more »

It just shows how Diplomacy by gentlemen is far better than Rule by Thunder .Mr Putin and Mr Lavrov and team have shown the West how it must be done. The US has finally and I must say , for a very long time , found a man who already has his fortune sorted and did not need to rob the taxpaying public to further his own wealth , plus we all knew he was not a fan of Regime Change .

What sickens me, is the fact that the MSM, completely ignore Russia’s involvement with helping to sort things out in Syria. Look at the respect that Russia receives over in the Middle East and not forgetting Asia. Whilst the West completely demonise the nation and leadership, that they seriously envy and not in a nice way.

The Main Sewer Stream Fake Media is not interested in “news”…they have been given an agenda to follow…and they ARE following it…you might have noticed that the false “hacking” and interference claims has given social media the “impetus” to “join the gang” by injecting a Gestapo style censorship on ANYTHING that runs counter to “the Agenda”…
