RT sources say that Vladimir Putin and his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong-un will meet in the city of Vladivostok, Russia’s Far East, on April 25. It will be the first meeting of the two heads of state.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier confirmed that the meeting would take place before the end of the month.

Earlier reports suggested that the leaders will hold talks on the Russky Island near Vladisvostok.

A short time ago a video appeared that shows a large motorcade, including two unidentified black limos, arriving through a checkpoint. The footage published on YouTube shows the main entrance to the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) on Russky Island in Russia’s Far East.

The official agenda of the upcoming talks has not been revealed but it is expected that the leaders will discuss security and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

The meeting is due to take place amidst the breakdown of Pyongyang’s negotiations with Washington. Earlier this month, North Korean leader gave the US until the end of 2019 to change its “posture” if it wants to make another summit between him and President Donald Trump possible. Kim also expressed dissatisfaction with the negotiation style of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, saying that he should be excluded from future talks.

Vladivostok is only about 10 miles from the Korean border – Moscow is some several thousand miles away.

Funny commiting to international travel within your own borders just to meet a foreign power who is closer to the destination than you are. I just find the juxtaposition funny.

P.S. A correction:

The North Korean video shows the arrival of Kim’s cortege of diplomats and security people in Vladivostok, because he himself is traveling by train across the North Korean-Russian border.

Both leaders, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un, are looking forward to this meeting. Russia and North Korea are connected by a close friendship, ever since Soviet Leader Joseph Stalin helped Kim’s grandfather Kim Il Sung set up the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in the aftermath of World War II. President Putin’s veto on the UN Security Council will give him leverage to chip away at some sanctions on the grounds that they are violating intended protection against “adverse humanitarian consequences.” One North Korean sanctions complaint is the Security Council requirement that countries expel North Korean guest workers by the… Read more »
