The Duran’s Alex Christoforou and Editor-in-Chief Alexander Mercouris discuss the latest attacks, this time by the UK civil service, against Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Corbyn has called for a “speedy and thorough independent investigation” into reported claims by senior members of the UK civil service that he is “too frail” to be prime minister.

The Labour leader has been under immense pressure to commit his party into officially supporting a second Brexit referendum, for which, to his credit, Corbyn has resisted.

In a letter to the cabinet secretary, Mark Sedwill, who heads the civil service, Corbyn claimed the matter had “undermined confidence in the principle of civil service neutrality.” He insisted that such discussions “based on false assumptions” should not be taking place.

The Labour leader posted his letter online, hitting out at “the establishment,” which is fearful of a party that would “redistribute wealth and power.”

Jeremy Corbyn on Twitter: “There must be a thorough and independent investigation into senior civil servants trying to undermine the next Labour government. The establishment, worried about our plans to redistribute wealth and power, is stepping up its attacks. The Times reported on Friday that it had been told by senior civil servants that they were becoming increasingly worried about the health of Corbyn. They cast doubts on his suitability for PM because he was not up to the job “physically or mentally.”

The report drew an angry response from Labour officials who rejected the comments, claiming that they were a “scurrilous” attempt to undermine the party’s attempt to gain power.

It also prompted a defiant reaction from Corbyn supporters on social media, who suggested the Rupert Murdoch-owned media were trying desperately to prevent the Labour leader from taking office.

According to the Labour Party, Sedwill wrote to Corbyn on Monday night in an unpublished letter, to express his concerns at the Times’ article and promised to investigate the matter.

Corbyn’s low energy. I like many of his stances or ambitions on the economy and foreign policy, but he didn’t and doesn’t know how to handle Trump-EU relations. And I didn’t like his soft stance regarding what happened to Assange…

this is good fellas i will share this on facebook — i’m also going to subscribe because I listen often and admire your videos — I can’t make my mind up about Corbyn — he is caught between a rock and hard place — I also think the labor party is itself split largely on geographical lines about Brexit and its hard to hold the metropolitan liberals and the provincial working class in one coalition –he does seem to be too principled on little things like allowing diversity of opinion inside the labor party which he has always stood for… Read more »

Imo, if Corbyn had supported a hard Brexit, he would have had many of the tory brexiteers on his side. The cosmopolitan, urban liberals are a pain the neck. They want no borders and unfettered immigration. We keep hearing doomsday scenarios about a hard Brexit. Utter hogwash. The Scottish Land Revenue group put out an estimate of how things would be in a post-EU Britain, provided the Government dumped taxes on the productive economy and instead moved toward taxing site values. They put the costs of Brexit between 17 and 81 billion per year vs deadweight losses of 500 bil… Read more »
