Many People in NATO Countries Say ‘No’ to Supporting a NATO Ally in a Military Conflict with Russia

Only in five countries — the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Lithuania — did more people (a majority in each case) support such military intervention than reject it.

Authored by Adam Dick via The Ron Paul Institute for Peace & Prosperity:

NATO is marketed as providing each member nation with the benefit that the other member nations are committed to coming to its aid militarily in the event of an attack by another nation, especially Russia. However, Pew Research Center poll results released Sunday indicate that the majority or plurality of people in 11 of 16 NATO countries where individuals were questioned oppose their respective governments meeting this commitment, at least if the military adversary were Russia.

These poll results indicate that serious thought should be given to disbanding NATO, an organization with a primary objective that appears to be at odds with public opinion in many NATO countries.

When asked if their respective countries’ governments should use military force to defend a NATO ally country neighboring Russia with which “Russia got into a serious military conflict,” people living in the 16 NATO countries tended to answer in the negative. “No” was the answer for the majority of polled individuals in eight countries — France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Slovakia, and Turkey. In three more NATO countries — the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland — a plurality rejected military intervention. Only in five countries — the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Lithuania — did more people (a majority in each case) support such military intervention than reject it.

Read the poll results here.

Canada should have absolutely no intention of going to war against Russia, even if USA’s Trump REQUIRES Canada’s OK against Russia, and even if Canada’s Chrystia Freeland’s Ukrainian origin would make or makes her a promotor of Canada’s warring against Russia as a friendly support of Ukraine. It’s important to know that Freeland’s grandfather was a Nazi Ukrainian, and there are still high numbers of Nazi Ukrainians in 2020. Does that include Chrystis Freeland? I would be tempted to write YES!

Tuned into MSNBC today for my limit (30 seconds) and they were blabbing about the one American neo-nazi that married a Russian in Moscow, and how white nationalism was an existential threat to America no less than ISIS or al Qaeda. Same MSNBC that has ignored, whitewashed and sanctified Ukraine’s neo-nazis for six years now and counting. (not to mention ISIS/al Qaeda itself)

The outright dishonesty of these people disgusts me to no end. Laughable no longer applies, One has to assume a full blown criminal pathology at this juncture and act accordingly.

Those supporting, funding and training the Nanzis over in Ukraine also own and control the media.

Growing up, never realised publishers and media elite were so evil and dangerous. Or Hollywood was the greatest weapon the US and Israel came up with.

Don't be fooled.

Freeland, like so many others, has redefined Ukraine’s pivot to fascist ideology, that her grandfather was so enamored of, as patriotic nationalism. Some are fooled into the deception but Freeland is clearly a torchbearer.

Have you ever wondered what happened to the kids and grand children of the Nanzi and Bol shevik elite, who were given safe passage and witness protection access in 5 ‘eye’ nations, Latin America and European safe havens?

Funny how so many have popped up as politicians or positions of power, in institutions that are publicly funded. Why are the kiddies demanding war with Russia, yet, most only have experience of peace Protests and no military experience whatsoever. Let alone a working history outside a classroom.

I;d like to know exactly how the Canadian sentiment towards a Russia/NATO confrontation was measured because I do not even remotely believe that a majority wou;d support it.

They sure as hell didn’t ask me. I am not in the prairies where the bulk of the Ukrainian population is, but I would also question the statement “there are still high numbers of Nazi Ukrainians” statement. What, as a percentage of the population? as a vocal minority? Where are they? Hell I haven’t met any in 20+ years. BS. And his statement about “Trump requiring” Canada to go to war with Russia is just more democratic projection. Its no accident that Freeland was moved out of her position as foreign minister, with Clinton out of the picture, and Bolton… Read more »

They’re there all right. You’re just willfully blind. I used to read the comments of some politically active gal in their diaspora congress on TOPIX right after the Norway slaughter. She had a real crush on Breivik, used to comment on how handsome he was. To be skeptical of the excesses of Norway’s neo-liberal tract and to swoon over a self-labeled neo-nazi, mass murderer are two very different things.

I know this Banderite-worshipping western Ukrainian mentality better than most. They’re fascist through and through and proud of it. Just youtube some of Tyahnybok’s rally speeches. He’s the norm, not the exception.

What blows my mind even more is to have bona-fide closet American neo-nazis like that Nolan Peterson, alleged ‘foreign correspondent’ writing gushing accolades of these ‘banderite battalions’ for the Daily Signal. Atlantic Council and Newsweek from the front lines of a few years ago.

If you’d asked me a few decades ago if such a mental disease would ever find a majority voice in American mainstream media and/or Congress to the extent it has re: European affairs, I’d have chuckled. No more.

Sorry, no I am not willfully blind, I asked for numbers as a percentage of the population, and you aren’t providing any. I specifically quoted what was said, I’ll quote it again. “there are still high numbers of Nazi Ukrainians” I say that’s bullshit. AM Hants posted it, I responded that is a TINY (NOT non-existant ) portion of the Canadian population, you then pipe up and say I am “willfully blind”. OK, so I am calling your bluff, if the Ukrainian Neo-Nazi movement has the numbers to actually sway the public opninion in Canada towards NATO engagement with Russia,… Read more »

You’re too quick to give Canada a pass. Remember one of your MPs proudly taking photo-ops at Right Sector booths at some provincial fairgrounds? Remember Canada’s Kiev embassy giving shelter to what turned out to be violent provocateurs and likely even some of those Maidan snipers themselves? Canada’s deep in it and a BIG part of the problem and certainly not any solution. Time you owned up to it.

see my response, feel free to fill in if Antifa doesn’t step up, and put some realistic numbers on it. And show the source of the numbers you post. Hell, if any of you have some hard facts, something other than youtube videos of a few hundred ranting skinheads, I am genuinely willing to listen. If I’m wrong, I’ll learn something.

Ok, so I wont assume that all of you are just spouting un-informed opinion, hyperbole and bullshit, which is what constitutes “evidence” in the comments on internet forums. I did five minutes of research on my own, which I will post here, citing the sources of the info. I wouldn’t normally cite Wikipedia as a source, but considering they are a neo-liberal mouthpiece, if anything, they should show a bias that skews TOWARD the argument of a racist white supremacist neo-Nazi fifth column existing in Canada. Total number of voters in 2019 Canadian federal election 18,171,948 The party I voted… Read more »

right. three hours and counting, no response, and other than my post actually documenting 791 far-right votes in Canada’s last election, no actual facts presented. But three hours is not very long, I will wait longer before I call bullshit.

And six hours later, we have a clear winner. Un-informed opinion, hyperbole and bullshit. Christia Freeland. Well, I unpacked the details of Michel Chomiaks career as a Nazi collaborator on a thread by Matthew Erret, and first became aware of it long before Freeland even entered politics, when I read a book on Operation Paper clip that mentioned him, back around 2004. And as I pointed out on Matthews thread, while I have little doubt that Freeland could be a closet neo-Nazi, I don’t think that really has any relevance as to why the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was… Read more »

It’s like the US-Military Occupation in Japan, South Korea, Italy + Germany…the majority of the populations want them gone for good, but the corrupt regimes political establishments elites + oligarchs of traitors, collaborators, sell-outs and foreign-agents….give a total fuck.

For heaven’s sake…stop this never ending war and fear mongering. If Russia really wanted to over-run Europe it could have done so long time ago – and no amount of US soldiers “defending” Europe could have stopped this. This war mongering certainly assures one thing: purchasing more weapons from…let me guess…from the US.

PRESS TV: NATO rejects France’s offer to extend nuclear protection to whole Europe – Sunday, 16 February 2020 NATO’s chief has rejected a call by France’s President Emmanuel Macron to put the country’s nuclear deterrence capabilities at the center of defense strategies adopted by the European Union (EU) members. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg dismissed Macron’s call for a European “strategic dialog” about the role of France’s nuclear weapons and said a “tried and tested” deterrent was already in place. Hailing France as a “highly valued ally” whose nuclear capabilities contributed to NATO’s… Read more »

Macron must learn. Washington demands to be at the wheel, even when drunk on power, while Macron sits in the back seat and whispers….you’re heading right for that cliff. Let me out please.

Washington spits back. Sit down and shut up. Just like in Libya, you’ll be our blowback mop up boys (in Mali) and nothing more. We call that being a ‘highly valued ally’ and we sincerely thank you for it. Besides, I see no cliff, just smooth sailing ahead.

Living in the UK, nobody asked me. What are Warsaw Pact members doing in NATO? What happened to promises made that we would not move an inch into Eastern Europe. Now we encircle Russia with NATO and US military bases. Plus 24/7 military exercises on Russia’s borders. Who complains the most about Russian aggression, ignoring NATO aggression and Russian patience?
