After her triumph over Serrano of Colombia earlier this week, Lansere continues to win.
Yesterday, July 14, Sofya Lansere of Russia beat the new junior French Open champion and No2 seed Whitney Osuigwe of United States with a score 7-5 6-3.
The Russian player said reflecting on her victory:
“I like the grass very much!”
This is the biggest win of Sofya’s young career which put the 16-year-old in the semifinals of junior Wimbledon.
Julia Kashevarova Lansere speaking through her coach:
“I think it’s more difficult to do today what Sharapova did [in 2004 when she won the Wimbledon title at the age of 17]. Tennis is more adult minded now.”
Sofya is on the court playing against the new tournament favourite Claire Liu of the United States right now!
Let’s wish luck to Sofya!
